Al-Azhar Chief to Visit Iraq
TEHRAN (IQNA) – Saad Kambash, president of Iraq’s Sunni Waqf Department, is in Cairo, Egypt, on an official visit.
He met with representative of Egypt’s Al-Azhar Islamic Center Muhammad al-Zuwaini.
They discussed preparations for an upcoming trip by Al-Azhar chief Sheikh Ahemd el-Tayeb to Iraq.
The meeting was also attended by Iraq’s ambassador to Egypt.
Kambash hailed Al-Azhar for its moderation and status in the Muslim world and said the people and government of Iraq would welcome the historic visit.
The two sides also discussed the opening of a branch of Al-Azhar in Baghdad.
